Ugh

I guess I cannot complain too much. We've had things pretty good in New England for awhile now. You know: fewer confederate flags (future post coming), really good seafood, and a string of championships.

So rather than cry about Brady, I'll enjoy the Red Sox, look forward to the Celtics, and remind myself that this is a "free year" when it comes to the NFL. If we lose this season, then we're no different than any other NFL team: sunk in the water without their starting QB (especially since our starting QB happens to be the reigning MVP).

But oh, if we win...

P.S.- This lowers my faith in humanity by about 4.736 points. Just for anyone keeping score.

The Patriots aren't out of the picture by any means: they've got great running backs, a stout (maybe even improving) defense, and they play in a weak division. And given their ability to groom personnel, I wouldn't be shocked if Cassel turns out to be a pleasant surprise.

Also, if the Democrats blow it this year, I give up.

So if you win it you're going to be more excited just because it looks tougher? Well then you'll still be less excited than the Giants were last year.

Oh yes. This support for McCain is just about the scariest thing I've had to admit about this country.

It's funny how support for a relatively moderate (but, as Camille Paglia put it, an alternately beady-eyed and frozen-smiling) Republican candidate actually is more frightening than the idea of an actual right-winger like Palin who is easy on the eyes.

And trust me, I agree -- if McCain wins I'm moving to Canada (in the tradition of all of the Baldwin brothers and George Cluney circa 2004 and Susan Sarandon every four years).

Cluney? Spelling?

I used to really like John McCain- before the wing got to him. I don't know enough about Palin yet to be afraid.

Agreed about McCain. He's definitely changed from a gunslinger to a card carrying member of the neocon/war-on-* camp.

I am hoping that once Obama starts burnin' through his war chest, good things will happen. And since his strategy all along has been to win the electoral vote first, and the popular second, things may not be as bad as they seem now.
